Braces with bright rubber band colors

Have you ever thought about how to accessorize your teeth? Weird question, sure, but with traditional braces, it’s possible. That’s because they use colored rubber bands to help create some tooth movements. While these bands are important for function, they can also be a fun way to make your teeth look better.

For instance, if you want to make your teeth look whiter, selecting the band colors can make all the difference. Continue reading if you want to learn the art of accessorizing your smile with braces.

Avoid Pale and White!

While it may seem like a great idea, white bands are the opposite of what you want to make your teeth appear lighter. Colors like white, grey, and pale pink can all have the same effect: they make your teeth look more yellow.

These softer hues can become discolored easily and draw attention to your darker teeth. Even if you’ve had a whitening treatment, very few people have truly white teeth. Wearing pale or white bands highlights this.

Dark and Blue Could be for You

On the opposite end of the spectrum, darker shades of blue, purple, and black are great ideas for whiter teeth. These colors drown out yellow, making your tooth enamel appear lighter. It’s all a matter of contrast. The lighter the shade of your bands, the darker your teeth will look, and vice versa.

Dark Doesn’t Always Mean Good

While dark colors for braces are much better than brighter or paler colors, not all of them are created equal. For instance, brown and green bands can mimic the appearance of food stuck to your teeth. This will ultimately detract from the aesthetics of your pearly whites. After all, who would like some broccoli permanently affixed to their teeth?

You Can Always Switch

Though there are some considerations to be made for your braces band colors, you don’t have to agonize over the decision. Every time you get your braces adjusted, you can pick a new band color. You can even choose more than one! Create patterns or alternate between two complementary shades to add a vibrant yet balanced element to your braces. The sky is the limit!

Selecting rubber band colors for your braces can be a fun and creative way to brighten your teeth. Try experimenting with colors you enjoy until you find the perfect combination. Just remember, you’re never stuck, so go crazy!
